At 2 the Moon Ventures, we believe great ideas deserve more than a launchpad. They deserve the fuel, guidance, and strategic support needed to reach orbit. Deadland, the gripping 2023 supernatural thriller from filmmaker Lance Larson, is one example of what can happen when a compelling vision gets the right support behind it.
2 the Moon Ventures helped fund, produce, and release this feature film, helping guide it from an ambitious creative concept to a finished film that reached audiences and major film festivals.
Deadland follows U.S. Border Patrol Agent Angel Waters, played by Roberto Urbina, after what initially appears to be a routine apprehension takes a dark and haunting turn. After an undocumented migrant dies while in custody, Angel and two fellow agents attempt to cover up the death by burying the body in the desert.
But the past doesn't stay buried.
The film combines mystery, suspense, and supernatural elements as Angel is confronted by a mysterious figure and forced to reckon with what happened.
At its core, Deadland explores:
Turning a feature film from an idea into a finished production requires more than a great script. It takes capital, creative collaboration, production expertise, strategic decision-making, and a plan for getting the finished project into the world.
That's where 2 the Moon Ventures helped provide the propulsion.
The film ultimately premiered at SXSW as part of its 2023 festival lineup before continuing its journey through the international festival circuit. Deadland screened at festivals including Busan International Film Festival and the São Paulo International Film Festival.
At São Paulo, Deadland competed in the New Directors Competition and received a nomination for Best Fiction, giving the film another significant milestone on its journey.
Deadland demonstrates something we believe strongly at 2 the Moon Ventures: investment isn't just about providing capital. It's about helping promising ideas achieve escape velocity.
